Properties
When a patient stops smoking and the body is no longer regularly supplied with nicotine, various withdrawal symptoms occur, including irritability, anxiety, mood swings, dizziness, headaches, and sleep disturbances. Nicorette FreshFruit Gum can prevent or alleviate these symptoms by supplying the body with small doses of nicotine over a short period. The nicotine contained in Nicorette FreshFruit Gum is in its pure form. Unlike cigarettes, Nicorette FreshFruit Gum does not release harmful tar or carbon dioxide, which are produced when tobacco is burned.
Indications
Nicorette FreshFruit Gum is indicated for the treatment of tobacco dependence by relieving cravings for cigarettes and withdrawal symptoms after quitting smoking.
Dosage
Children and adolescents: Nicorette FreshFruit Gum should only be used by persons under 18 years of age after consulting a doctor. There is only limited data on the treatment of persons in this age group with Nicorette FreshFruit Gum.
Adults and elderly: The initial dose should be individually adjusted to the degree of nicotine dependence. Usually, 8–12 pieces of gum per day with the appropriate nicotine content are used. Light smokers (≥ 20 cigarettes/day) should start with a dose of 2 mg. Heavy smokers should start with a dose of 4 mg. Do not use more than 15 pieces of gum per day.
Smoking cessation
Nicorette FreshFruit Gum supports smoking cessation for all those determined to quit smoking. The gum should be used for at least 3 months, followed by a gradual reduction. Treatment should be stopped once the dose has been reduced to 1–2 pieces of gum per day.
Reduction of cigarette consumption
Nicorette FreshFruit Gum helps people who do not want or are unable to quit smoking to reduce their cigarette consumption. To extend the time between cigarettes and maximize cigarette reduction, use the gum as soon as you feel the urge to smoke. If you have not achieved a reduction in the number of cigarettes smoked per day after 6 weeks, consult your doctor. You should try to quit smoking as soon as possible, but no later than 6 months after starting treatment. If a serious attempt to quit smoking is not possible within 9 months after starting treatment, consult your doctor. Regular use of the gum for more than 12 months is generally not recommended. Some former smokers may require a longer treatment period to avoid relapse. Keep unused gum for sudden cravings. It is advisable to consult self-help groups, as they can support quitting and contribute to a successful outcome.
Temporary abstinence
Nicorette FreshFruit Gum helps smokers to temporarily abstain from smoking. Use the gum between cigarettes as soon as you feel the urge to smoke, for example in places where smoking is prohibited or in other situations where you wish to avoid smoking.
