Guajazyl syrup is an expectorant medicine. Guajazyl reduces the viscosity of secretions from the bronchi and trachea and increases their volume. The syrup acts as an expectorant and relieves productive (wet) cough.
Composition
The active ingredient of the medicine is guaifenesin (guaifenesinum). 5 ml of syrup contain 125 mg of guaifenesin. Excipients: sucrose, cochineal red (E 124), ethylparahydroxybenzoate, ethanol, rum essence, povidone, purified water.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The medicine is taken orally after a meal with a little liquid. Use a teaspoon with a capacity of 5 ml, which contains 6.2 g of syrup, or a tablespoon with a capacity of 15 ml, which contains 18.7 g of syrup, for measuring.
The usual dosage of Guajazyl syrup depends on the age of the patient and may be adjusted by the doctor. Children aged 6 to 12 years are given 1 teaspoon of syrup 3 to 4 times daily. Adults and children over 12 years are given 15 ml of syrup (1 tablespoon) 3 to 4 times daily.
Indications
The indication for the use of Guajazyl is the treatment of productive (wet) cough.
