Properties
When a patient stops smoking and the body is no longer regularly supplied with nicotine, various withdrawal symptoms occur, including irritability, anxiety, mood swings, dizziness, headaches, and sleep disturbances. Nicorette FreshFruit Gum can prevent or alleviate these symptoms by supplying the body with small doses of nicotine over a short period. The nicotine contained in Nicorette FreshFruit Gum is in pure form. Unlike cigarettes, Nicorette FreshFruit Gum does not release harmful tar or carbon dioxide, which are produced when tobacco is burned.
Indications
Nicorette FreshFruit Gum is indicated for the treatment of tobacco dependence by reducing cravings for cigarettes and withdrawal symptoms after quitting smoking.
Dosage
Adults and elderly: The initial dose should be individually adjusted to the degree of nicotine dependence. Usually, 8–12 pieces of gum with the appropriate nicotine content are taken daily. Light smokers (? 20 cigarettes/day) should start treatment with a dose of 2 mg. Heavy smokers should start with a dose of 4 mg. Do not use more than 24 pieces of gum per day.
Smoking cessation
Nicorette FreshMint Gum supports smoking cessation for anyone who wants to quit smoking. The gum should be used for at least 3 months. Afterwards, the dose should be gradually reduced. Treatment should be stopped once the dose has been reduced to 1–2 pieces of gum per day.
Reduction of cigarette consumption
Nicorette Classic Gum helps to reduce the number of cigarettes smoked daily – a first step towards quitting for those who cannot or do not want to stop abruptly. To extend the time until quitting and minimize the number of cigarettes smoked, use the gum between cigarettes whenever you feel the urge to smoke. If you have not achieved a reduction in the number of cigarettes smoked daily after 6 weeks, consult your doctor.
You should try to quit smoking as soon as possible, but no later than 6 months after starting treatment. If a serious attempt to quit is not possible within 9 months of starting treatment, please consult your doctor.
In general, regular use of the gum for more than 12 months is not recommended. Some former smokers may require a longer treatment period to avoid relapse. Keep unused gum in case of a sudden craving for cigarettes. It is advisable to consult self-help groups, as they support quitting and contribute to successful treatment completion.
Temporary abstinence
Nicorette FreshMint Gum helps smokers to temporarily abstain from smoking. Use the gum between cigarettes when you feel the urge to smoke, for example in places where smoking is prohibited or in other situations where you want to avoid smoking.
