PropertiesThe stool test for occult blood detects human hemoglobin. Annual testing is important for colorectal cancer screening in people over 35 years of age. This disease, which often remains asymptomatic for a long time, is one of the most common cancers in Poland.
IndicationsThe stool test for occult blood should be performed not only once a year, but also in the presence of the following symptoms:
- sudden weight loss;
- persistent digestive problems and difficulty with bowel movements;
- persistent stomach pain, including a feeling of heaviness in the stomach;
- bloating.
ProcedureThis rapid test for the detection of occult blood in stool does not require a special diet. It is intended for self-testing.
Instructions for useHold the stool sample container so that the blue cap is on top and the white cap is on the bottom. Unscrew the blue cap and use the applicator inside to collect a stool sample for the test. To collect the sample, insert the tip of the applicator about 1 cm deep into the stool at three different places. Make sure that the stool only thinly covers the surface of the applicator.
Note: Too much stool on the applicator, which is then placed in the solution container, can lead to an invalid test result. Return the applicator with the collected stool sample to the extraction solution container, close it tightly, and shake it vigorously to mix everything well.
Test procedureRemove the test strip from the aluminum pouch and place it on a flat surface. The pouch also contains a desiccant, which should be disposed of in household waste. The test should be completed within one hour. Hold the sample container as before (blue cap on top, white cap on the bottom) and this time unscrew the white cap, which protects the tip of the container from accidental breakage. Shake the container vigorously to thoroughly mix the stool sample with the liquid. Then break off the tip of the container with a paper towel. Squeeze the sides of the container and place 3 full drops of the solution onto the round window of the test strip. Do not touch the test strip with the tip when applying the liquid. Start timing. Read the test result after 5 minutes. Results after 8 minutes are invalid. Pour out the remaining liquid in the sample container and rinse it with water. Dispose of the test and the empty container in household waste after reading.
Interpretation of the test resultNegative result: Only one line appears in the result window: control line C. The test line T is not visible. No occult blood was detected in the sample.
Positive result: Two pink lines appear in the result window: control line C and test line T. The color intensity of the test line T is irrelevant. The test line T may be weaker, as strong as, or stronger than the control line C. Even a very faint T line should be interpreted as a positive test result. Occult blood was
