Characteristics
Skinoren Gel is a medicine for acne with antibacterial and comedone-reducing properties. Skinoren contains azelaic acid, which is used for papulopustular acne of the facial skin. The medication is intended for adults and adolescents from 12 years of age.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The medicine is to be applied externally to the prepared facial skin. Before applying the medicine, the affected area should be cleaned and dried. Wash your hands after applying the gel. A 2.5 cm strip (about 0.5 g of gel) is sufficient to cover the facial skin. No occlusive dressings can be applied to the treated area. The usual dosage of Skinoren Gel for adults and adolescents over 12 years is a thin layer of gel on acne lesions twice daily (morning and evening). In case of skin irritation, the gel should be applied once daily. If necessary, discontinue use for a few days. Improvement usually occurs after 4 weeks of regular use.
Effect
Skinoren contains azelaic acid, which has an antibacterial effect (inhibits Propionibacterium acnes bacteria), inhibits excessive keratinization of the epidermis, reduces free fatty acids on the skin surface, and decreases the number of comedones.
Indications
The indication for Skinoren is papulopustular acne of the facial skin of mild to moderate severity.
Contraindications
Skinoren Gel must not be used if you are allergic to the active substance azelaic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
