Properties
Hasceral ointment contains 10% urea and 5% salicylic acid. 10% urea acts keratolytically and leads to exfoliation of the stratum corneum. It also softens excessively keratinized epidermal layers and restores the skin's protective barrier, thereby significantly reducing transdermal water loss. Salicylic acid at a concentration of 5% causes exfoliation of epidermal cells. Its effect is twofold: it reduces cell adhesion by dissolving the intercellular matrix and lowers the pH value in the stratum corneum, which promotes skin moisture and makes the epidermis softer. This leads to a loss of cell cohesion, separation of the cells, and exfoliation. Salicylic acid and urea also have antibacterial and antifungal effects by altering the pH value of the skin surface.
