Indications
The medication is used for the prevention and treatment of hepatic encephalopathy and constipation.
Effect
Lactulose-MIP 9.75 g/15 ml syrup is a disaccharide composed of D-galactose and fructose. It is a mild laxative with an osmotic effect. Two phenomena are responsible for the laxative effect of lactulose: sugars and acids cause a change in osmotic pressure (increase in the volume of intestinal contents), which indirectly stimulates intestinal peristalsis, while acids directly stimulate intestinal peristalsis.
Lactulose-MIP also helps to lower blood ammonia levels.
Dosage
Oral, individual.
Constipation: Adults: 10-15 ml 1-2 times daily.
Hepatic encephalopathy: Adults: initially 10-15 ml 3 times daily, then 30-45 ml 3-4 times daily.
The dosage should be adjusted so that the patient has soft stools 2-3 times daily.
Children – no data available.
The preparation can be administered after dilution with water or other liquids, regardless of meals.
