Characteristics
The medication Senefol contains active substances from anthranoid glycosides, which are found in the leaves and fruits of senescence, that influence the peristalsis of the large intestine, inhibit water absorption, soften the fecal masses, and facilitate defecation.
Indications
A herbal medicine for the emergency treatment of constipation.
Application
Adolescents over 12 years, adults: 2-4 tablets before bedtime. The preparation should be taken with plenty of water. A dose of 4 tablets should not be exceeded.
Due to varying individual sensitivity, dosing should begin with the smallest dose (1 tablet), which should be increased as needed to determine the effective dose. The laxative effect occurs after 8 to 12 hours; if there is no laxative effect, the next dose of the preparation should be taken after 12 hours.
Taking the medicine 2-3 times per week is usually sufficient to achieve a therapeutic effect.
Method of administration: oral.
Overdose
Cramp-like pain and diarrhea may occur, with possible dehydration and electrolyte loss (water-electrolyte imbalance). Water and electrolyte deficits should be compensated. Potassium monitoring is recommended, especially in the elderly. Prolonged overdose of anthranoids can lead to hepatitis.
Treatment if a dose of the medicine is missed:
Do not use a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
