Properties
Taninal is a traditional medicinal product whose effectiveness is based solely on long-standing use and experience. Taninal contains a combination of tannins – tannic acid (tannin) – and the protein albumin. This combination prevents strong irritation of the gastric mucosa. The tannins are released in the small intestine under the influence of the digestive enzyme pancreatin. The released tannin has astringent and bacteriostatic effects and also has antidiarrheal properties by forming poorly soluble complexes with bacterial toxins. It also stops minor bleeding caused by injuries to the capillaries of the intestinal mucosa.
Taninal is traditionally used for diarrhea and food poisoning. Taninal is available in the form of round, beige to brown tablets.
