Properties
Hirudoid is a gel for the treatment of injuries (with or without hematomas) and superficial phlebitis. Hirudoid can also be used for iontophoresis and phonophoresis.
Dosage
Always use this medication exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any questions, please contact your doctor or pharmacist. This gel is intended for external use on the skin. Hirudoid should be applied to the affected areas 2 to 3 times daily, or more frequently if needed, and gently massaged in. Depending on the size of the treatment area, a gel area of 3 to 5 cm² is usually sufficient. Do not apply the medication under a bandage. Hirudoid can also be used for phonophoresis and iontophoresis. For iontophoresis, the gel is applied under the cathode. For blunt injuries, treatment usually lasts up to 10 days; for superficial phlebitis, 1 to 2 weeks.
Composition
The active ingredient is mucopolysaccharide polysulfate (mucopolysaccharidum polysulfatum). 100 g of gel contain 0.3 g mucopolysaccharide polysulfate, equivalent to 25,000 units.
